REVIEW: Fall into Temptation by Lucy Score
Posted September 24th, 2024 by Sara @HarlequinJunkie in Blog , Contemporary Romance , HJ Recommends , Review / 7 comments
‘She was a package deal. And she needed Beckett to be okay with that.’
Beckett has a law practice and his duties as mayor of Blue Moon–plus a new business endeavor with his two brothers on the family farm–to keep him constantly busy. He was hoping renting out his guesthouse would be an easy way to add some income and help out a young family who needed a safe, cozy place to stay. Beckett wasn’t expecting to fall head over feet for his tenant, Gia. Or to adore her, well, adorable kids so much. Soon he’s thinking of nothing but her, all day every day. And as a guy whose last relationship had red flags he totally missed about the, ahem, clinginess and mental stability of said girlfriend, he’s a little wary of getting serious with someone again. But Beckett can soon see a future with Gia, Evan, and Aurora in it just as clear as day. If he can keep from messing things up when it gets complicated, he might have a shot at having them in his life for good.
“You matter to me, Beckett. And this sneaking around feels like…it feels like it diminishes what you make me feel.” She shook her head. “I need to think.” “You matter to me too, Gianna.” So much more than he ever anticipated. There was no planning for something as unexpected as Gianna Decker.
Lucy Score never fails to charm and entertain. And FALL INTO TEMPTATION, the second book in her Blue Moon series, was awash with nosy townspeople, family drama, and a sizzling romance between the mayor and a single mom that was as heartwarming as it was delicious.
“This whole ‘get each other out of our systems’ thing doesn’t seem to be working too well so far,” Gia said, threading her fingers through his hair. “I guess we’ll just have to keep trying,” he said before bringing his mouth to hers.
Lucy Score creates some of the most well-rounded, likable characters in romance today. Everyone in FALL INTO TEMPTATION (a reissued book) fit that description and had me wishing they were real so I could spend a weekend (or month or two) with them to watch all their antics up close. Our main characters, Beckett and Gia, themselves were wonderful. And wonderful together. Their attraction simmered right from their first meeting, and it never let up, building and growing until they basically had no choice but to give in to it. Of course, things couldn’t stay casual–or discreet–for long. And you just knew the residents of Blue Moon would keep pushing them together until they made it official as a couple.
Aside from the awesomeness that was Gia and Beckett, her two kids, Evan and Aurora, stole the show. Any scene Score created with either or both of them in it ended up being hysterical and oh so genuine. From Rora’s nickname for Beckett and her patented sad, pouty face destroying him to Evan’s snark and surprising wit, I had a blast reading about them. What I also loved, though, was how the locals–including Beckett’s family–pulled Gia and her kids into the fold, no questions asked. It gave the kids room to grow, feel safe, and figure out their place in the world, and it gave Gia and Beckett some time to explore a relationship. Things did get complicated toward the last quarter of the book, but in true Lucy Score fashion, the town as well as everyone around Beckett and Gia paved the way for a happy resolution. And oh, what a glorious ending it was. *sigh*
QOTD: Gia was an amazing yoga teacher. Have you ever practiced yoga yourself at home or in a studio?
Beckett Pierce is the most eligible bachelor in the nosiest small town in upstate New York. But after his last girlfriend handcuffed herself to his porch and set his welcome mat on fire, he’s not looking for any more romance.
Even if it lands right in his backyard and has miles of red hair.
Gianna Decker has her hands full–no, overflowing–with problems. With two kids, a useless ex, and a brand-new yoga studio, the last thing on her mind is finding a man who’ll cause her more problems.
Dating her broody landlord? Yeah, that would be a problem. Dating the sexy mayor of the town she just moved to? Definitely a problem. Dating the “favorite” son of her father’s new lady friend? It seems like Beckett is a bad idea just waiting to happen. But he’s a bad idea she can’t seem to resist.
As Beckett and Gianna find themselves thrown together again and again, they can’t help but fall into the temptation of sizzling stolen kisses, of a desire so hot it brands. And soon they’re much, much closer than they ever wanted. Tempers flare when their families complicate things and the interfering citizens of Blue Moon Bend step in with their special brand of chaos.
Can Beckett and Gianna manage to disentangle themselves before it’s too late?
Or is the temptation too much for either of them to deny?

I have never practiced yoga, but I would be interested in trying. Thank you for the review.
I would want to try Pilates first before yoga. But this is a lovely review, Team HJ.

I’ve done yoga at home, not nearly enough though. I’m enjoying Lucy Score’s books so much since I discovered them.

No More Secrets (Blue Moon, 1) Paperback – August 13, 2024
Purchase options and add-ons.
From the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of Things We Never Got Over
"Are you calling dibs?"
"She's a woman, not the last piece of f**king pie. And yes, I'm calling dibs if it keeps your hands off her."
Carter Pierce wants to spend his days tending the family farm he inherited, and that's about it. After a tour of duty and a few bullet holes, he's looking forward to some peace and quiet in his hometown. Unfortunately, Blue Moon doesn't believe in peace and quiet. And his nosy neighbors sure as hell don't know how to mind their own business.
As it turns out, neither does the big city journalist who arrives to interview him for a magazine article. Summer Lentz is out of place with her designer wardrobe and workaholic schedule. She asks too many questions and gets under his skin with her smart mouth and those denim-blue eyes. She's also typing his family's story a mile a minute at his kitchen table and sleeping in the bedroom across the hall. Carter's only chance for peace is to scare her away from farm life so he can go back to his comfortable, solitary existence.
But Summer's got a stubborn streak and secrets of her own. And once Carter starts pulling at those threads, he's not so eager to send her packing. Will a nudge from the matchmaking Beautification Committee result in a happily ever after or a homegrown disaster?

From the Jack Reacher series , Vol. 24
by Lee Child ‧ RELEASE DATE: Oct. 29, 2019
Perhaps if there were more time between chapters, Child's series could recover the polish it deserves.
Jack Reacher lends a hand to an elderly couple under threat from loan sharks and winds up in the midst of an underworld war in the 24th entry in this series ( Past Tense , 2018, etc.).
After Reacher saves an old man from a mugging, he finds out the man and his wife went into hock to get money for their daughter's lifesaving medical treatment. Meanwhile, in the unnamed city where the novel is set, the Albanian and Ukrainian crime bosses who have divvied up the territory are vying to see who can take over for good before the appointment of a new police commissioner. The sudden appearance of Reacher makes each suspect he's an agent for outside forces and accelerates the body count between them. That this is the best premise for a Reacher novel in some time, even if it's partly lifted from Akira Kurosawa's film Yojimbo , can't quite disguise that something has gone off in the series. Reacher's apologies to a suffering old couple that there's not much he can do isn't really what we want in a hero—especially one who has always taken such pleasure in pissing off bullies. Whenever the plot shifts to the machinations between the rival gangsters it bogs down in exposition. And while Reacher's ass-kickings have always been amusing, the series has never developed the dark ability to turn the violence into a deadpan sick joke. The carnage here should be funnier the more extreme it gets. It's not bad, but it's far from the tight, nifty execution that made the Reacher books so much fun to begin with.

Our Verdict
New York Times Bestseller
by Max Brooks ‧ RELEASE DATE: June 16, 2020
A tasty, if not always tasteful, tale of supernatural mayhem that fans of King and Crichton alike will enjoy.
Are we not men? We are—well, ask Bigfoot, as Brooks does in this delightful yarn, following on his bestseller World War Z (2006).
A zombie apocalypse is one thing. A volcanic eruption is quite another, for, as the journalist who does a framing voice-over narration for Brooks’ latest puts it, when Mount Rainier popped its cork, “it was the psychological aspect, the hyperbole-fueled hysteria that had ended up killing the most people.” Maybe, but the sasquatches whom the volcano displaced contributed to the statistics, too, if only out of self-defense. Brooks places the epicenter of the Bigfoot war in a high-tech hideaway populated by the kind of people you might find in a Jurassic Park franchise: the schmo who doesn’t know how to do much of anything but tries anyway, the well-intentioned bleeding heart, the know-it-all intellectual who turns out to know the wrong things, the immigrant with a tough backstory and an instinct for survival. Indeed, the novel does double duty as a survival manual, packed full of good advice—for instance, try not to get wounded, for “injury turns you from a giver to a taker. Taking up our resources, our time to care for you.” Brooks presents a case for making room for Bigfoot in the world while peppering his narrative with timely social criticism about bad behavior on the human side of the conflict: The explosion of Rainier might have been better forecast had the president not slashed the budget of the U.S. Geological Survey, leading to “immediate suspension of the National Volcano Early Warning System,” and there’s always someone around looking to monetize the natural disaster and the sasquatch-y onslaught that follows. Brooks is a pro at building suspense even if it plays out in some rather spectacularly yucky episodes, one involving a short spear that takes its name from “the sucking sound of pulling it out of the dead man’s heart and lungs.” Grossness aside, it puts you right there on the scene.

A CONSPIRACY OF BONES
by Kathy Reichs ‧ RELEASE DATE: March 17, 2020
Forget about solving all these crimes; the signal triumph here is (spoiler) the heroine’s survival.
Another sweltering month in Charlotte, another boatload of mysteries past and present for overworked, overstressed forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan.
A week after the night she chases but fails to catch a mysterious trespasser outside her town house, some unknown party texts Tempe four images of a corpse that looks as if it’s been chewed by wild hogs, because it has been. Showboat Medical Examiner Margot Heavner makes it clear that, breaking with her department’s earlier practice ( The Bone Collection , 2016, etc.), she has no intention of calling in Tempe as a consultant and promptly identifies the faceless body herself as that of a young Asian man. Nettled by several errors in Heavner’s analysis, and even more by her willingness to share the gory details at a press conference, Tempe launches her own investigation, which is not so much off the books as against the books. Heavner isn’t exactly mollified when Tempe, aided by retired police detective Skinny Slidell and a host of experts, puts a name to the dead man. But the hints of other crimes Tempe’s identification uncovers, particularly crimes against children, spur her on to redouble her efforts despite the new M.E.’s splenetic outbursts. Before he died, it seems, Felix Vodyanov was linked to a passenger ferry that sank in 1994, an even earlier U.S. government project to research biological agents that could control human behavior, the hinky spiritual retreat Sparkling Waters, the dark web site DeepUnder, and the disappearances of at least four schoolchildren, two of whom have also turned up dead. And why on earth was Vodyanov carrying Tempe’s own contact information? The mounting evidence of ever more and ever worse skulduggery will pull Tempe deeper and deeper down what even she sees as a rabbit hole before she confronts a ringleader implicated in “Drugs. Fraud. Breaking and entering. Arson. Kidnapping. How does attempted murder sound?”

First I want to state that Lucy Score's Blue Moon series is A-MAZING!!!! It is one of the best small town romances I have ever read. Seriously no joke! The people of Blue Moon are so fun, loving, caring, nosey and silly all in their own special way.

BOOK REVIEW. THE BONE CODE. by Kathy Reichs. Jack Reacher lends a hand to an elderly couple under threat from loan sharks and winds up in the midst of an underworld war in the 24th entry in this series (Past Tense, 2018, etc.).
Blue Moon is the 24th in the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child and once again it’s a farfetched, well written explosion of entertainment! Riding the Greyhound bus, Reacher sees an old guy on a seat ahead of him, asleep, with an envelope hanging out of his pocket.
