The BSc. Nursing programme equips students in the knowledge, techniques and procedures for promoting health, providing care for sick, disabled, infirm, or other individuals or groups. It also includes instruction in the administration of medication and treatments, assisting physicians during treatments and examinations, referring patients to physicians and other health care specialists, and plainning education for health maintenance.
The programme leads to specialisation in General Nursing, Paediatric Nursing, Midwiferey, Community Health Nursing or Mental Health Nursing.
Students will be assessed on the basis of completed assignments, examinations, workplace learning, or other methods as outlined in specific subject outlines.

History of SoNM
The School of Nursing was first established as a Post Basic Nursing institution in 1963 as a World Health Organisation (WHO) project at request of the Ministry of Health. It then focused on preparation of Diploma awarded Nurse Tutors for basic nursing training institutions. Further the School also focused on certificate courses in Nursing Management in July 1970 and diploma courses in Nursing Service Administration in 1971. In 1980, the degree programme began and the designation of the Post-Basic Nursing Department changed to Department of Nursing with a wholly Ghanaian staff and placed under both the Faculties of Science and Social Studies. In July 15, 2003, the Department was upgraded into a School and made a constituent of the College of Health Sciences by the University Council.

1. University of Ghana: School of Nursing and Midwifery (SoNM)
This school is a branch of the College of Health Sciences, an esteemed college that has produced thousands of outstanding nurses and midwives in Ghana and abroad. The school comprises five departments: Community Health, Maternal and Child Health, Research Education and Administration, Adult Health, and Mental Health.
Two types of candidates are considered for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Programme: Diploma in Nursing Holders (enter at Level 200) and West Africa Senior High School Certificate or its equivalent.
For WASSCE, applicants are required to have all school requirements. They must also have a minimum of C6/D in Core courses and a minimum of C6/D in each chosen subject, particularly in sciences.
Two types of diploma holders will be accepted for admission: Holders of a Diploma in Nursing from a recognised nursing college with a CGPA of at least 3.25 and Holders of a Diploma in Nursing Education/Administration from a recognised university with at least a B+ average or second-class upper.

2. Valley View University: School of Nursing and Midwifery
Are you looking for a university offering value-based Christian education for nurses? If so, Valley View University is the perfect institution for you. The School of Nursing and Midwifery offers three programmes: BSc Mental Health, BSc Midwifery, and BSc Nursing.
The basic requirements for admission into the first-degree programme include 18 to 35 years and the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Exam (WASSCE) and Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination(SSSCE).
WASSCE and SSSCE applicants must have three credit passes in three principal subjects and three credit passes in three applicable optional subjects to be eligible for admission to the degree in Nursing and Midwifery programmes.
WASSCE Candidates must have credit passes (at least A1 to C6) in six subjects, including three primary subjects: Science, mathematics, and English and three suitable electives.
SSSCE candidates must obtain credit passes (A to D) in six disciplines, including three core subjects: English, mathematics, and science, and three related electives.

3. Central University
Central University is one of the best private nursing training schools in Ghana. The institution offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
SSSCE holders must score twenty-four or higher in six subjects, including A to D in all three primary subjects: English, mathematics, and integrated science. They should have minimum passes (A to D) in three optional subjects: Science, agricultural science, general arts , and home economics.
WASSCE candidates must have a total score of 36 or higher in six subjects, including A1 - C6 in all three main subjects: Mathematics, English, and integrated science and a minimum of passes in three optional subjects from general arts, science, home economics, and agricultural science.
How to apply for a Teachers Training College in Ghana in 2022
International candidates must have their results translated into English. Additionally, applicants must be able to communicate in both written and spoken English.
Applicants with a Registered Nursing (RN) Diploma from a recognised institution may apply. These applicants may transfer credits from an earlier course of study with acceptable references and recommendations. Applicants with a State Registered Nurse (SRN) qualification should have a recognised health institution reference and at least three years of experience.
The school fees per semester for fresh undergraduate students is GHC 5,491 and $2,059 for international students.
Western Hills School of Nursing is an Accra-based institution offering different programmes. It is one of the best private nursing schools in Ghana.
The main courses are the diploma in Registered General Nursing Programme (RGN), certificate in Medicine Counter Assistant (MCA), and Registered Nurse Assistant Clinical (RNAC).

Ophthalmic Nursing School is one of the government-owned training colleges in Ghana. The school offers programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Since the slots are limited due to the high number of applicants, one must pay attention when the college releases the application dates.
Students seeking admission to an Ophthalmic Nursing Korle-Bu must purchase the Voucher from GCB or ADB and apply online.

6. Martin Luther King Health Training School
Martin Luther King Health Training School is an Accra-based college offering nursing courses at the certificate level. The nursing programmes offered include Nurse Assistant Clinical (NAC) and Nursing Assistant Clinical (HAC).
The school adheres to the Nursing and Midwives Council of Ghana's admittance requirements. It accepts graduates of second-cycle institutions such as SSSCCE and WASSCE.
SSSCE candidates must score 27 or higher, including (A-D) in three core areas: English, mathematics, and integrated science and (A=E) in any three optional subjects from a programme of study.
WASSCE candidates must get an aggregate score of 42 or higher, including (A1-C6) in three core courses: English, mathematics, and integrated science and (A1 to E8) in any three optional areas from an academic programme.

7. Health Concern Ghana
Health Concern Ghana is a private college offering nursing courses. The Ghana Nursing and Midwifery Council accredits the Accra-based college to provide different programmes. The college offers two areas of study: A diploma in Midwifery and a Nurse Assistant Clinical (NAC).

You must have a WASSCE result of A1 - E8 to qualify for NAC. On the other hand, the college admits students to its diploma programme if they have a Post Nurse Assistant Clinical certificate or relevant qualification. 8. St Karol School of Nursing
St Karol is an accredited nursing school in Ghana. What course does the Karol School of Nursing offer? It offers a BSc degree in Registered General Nursing (RGN).
The admission policy does not include age restrictions for candidates. WASSCE candidates must have a grade of C6 in English, mathematics, social studies, or integrated science, as well as three optional grades in general arts, general science, or home economics. In addition, to the above, applicants must have:
- A minimum of C6/D in Core courses

Mature Students Applicants must be practising nurses and should satisfy the general University requirements for admission of mature students.
Diploma Holders Two categories of diploma holders will be considered for admission:
